SUPERGIRLS (2005)
The symbols and myths of our culture influence identity and self-esteem. Traditional fairy tales as well as images from popular culture, films and the media served as inspiration for this series. The assembled photographs were created through a process of layering of both original photographs and appropriated images. I see this work as a meditation on issues of gender, desire, identity and the complexities of language (communication). My images often collide with the language of science, philosophy and religion. These basic ingredients inform my search for meaning in a complex web of interconnected systems.
